Bring Old Wood Back to Life « Previous Page

The surface of unprotected wood exposed to ourdoor conditions is subject to a surface roughening and degradation commonly termed weathering. Most weathered and grey wood can be cleaned and brought back to life with Woodoc Wood Reviver.

Remember the following tips when using products like Woodoc Wood Reviver, paint strippers, mineral turpentine or thinners:

  • Always use a well ventilated area and avoid unnecessary inhalation of fumes.
  • Wear rubber gloves and avoid contact with skin and particularly eyes.
  • Read the precautionary and treatment measures before using the product.
  • Be careful about disposal of residue and leaving open containers lying around.
  • Wash any brushes, tools used and hands thoroughly after use of product.

Before applying Woodoc Wood Reviver, follow the steps below:

  • The old coating should be completely removed, not just the area to be treated.

Applying Woodoc Wood Reviver

Mix the Woodoc Wood Reviver crystals with warm tap water using the bucket and spatula supplied. Remember to wear the protective gloves. Dip the scrubbing brush into the solution and apply to the wood, scrubbing with the grain. As you work you will see the dirt and grime, caused by weathering, coming off the wood. When it appears that the dirt and grime has been scrubbed off, rinse the surface with clean water. If any traces of weathering still exist repeat the process described above. Leave the wood to dry for at least two to three weeks.

Once the wood is dry it must be well sanded to remove all traces of coarseness caused by the Wood Reviver. For example, start with a coarse 60 grit sand paper and use progressively finer grit, ending with a 180 grit paper.

Finally seal with a product such as Woodoc 50, a clear gloss sealer that protects wood against the weather and UV rays, and enhances the natural colour of the wood.
